This is a self-extracting DOS file containing PKZIP/PKUNZIP/PKSFX version 2.04g. Type PKZ204G at a DOS prompt to decompress the program and documentation files for the software.
Note: The only programs that have functionally changed from V 2.04e to 2.04g are PKZIP.EXE, PKUNZIP.EXE and PKCFG.EXE.
New since V2.04e:
* Corrected a bug in which Quick Format could in some instances leave unallocated sectors (orphaned clusters) on the diskette.
New from V2.04c V2.04e:
* Corrected a bug in the BACKUP= option that generated an E27 or E28 error.
* PKZIP and PKUNZIP were modified to be able to deal with volume labels created by Norton Utilities.
Version 2.04 offers many enhancements over V1.10:
* Greatly improved Speed and Compression.
* Now has the ability to "span" a .ZIP file across multiple diskettes if needed. Also has the ability to format the destination diskettes on the fly.
* Now has the ability to process more files and run with less conventional memory by making use of EMS, UMB, and HMA memory.
* Updating or creating a .ZIP file on a network drive is much faster with new Novell Network "awareness."
* Automatic CPU type detection, which enables CPU-specific optimization.
* Automatic DPMI (DOS Protected Mode Interface) support executes code in 32-bit protected mode for better speed.
* New PKSFX Junior and PKUNZIP Junior programs, which use very little memory and are extremely small. Though reduced in ability, their small size makes them very useful.
* Password Encryption security greatly improved.
* Authenticy Verification allows creation of .ZIP files which enables PKUNZIP tampering detection.
Notes: PKUNZIP 2.04 will unzip any files created with PKZIP 1.10, but PKUNZIP 1.10 will NOT be able to unzip any files created with PKZIP 2.04. For this reason, it is recommended that you upgrade to this version for guaranteed compatibility.
